10687 Essential Technology Issues and Skills in Modern Counseling

Course Description

Receive foundational technology knowledge and skills for maintaining professional responsibilities in the context of the relatively new standards that arose in the 21st century. Examine HIPAA Security and Breach Notification Rules, changing codes of ethics regarding the use of digital technology in counseling practice, and changes in social expectations around boundaries and privacy. Assess popular communications technologies for ethical, clinical, and practical appropriateness for use with clients. This course is beginner level, although experienced clinicians who attended grad programs before the last few years will probably learn entirely new standards and skills.

Sponsored by Portland State University.
